· Burial Society Day
The Chevrah Kadisha [ # ] (Jewish Burial Societies) hold their annual get-together and feast on Adar 7th. This is based on the tradition that G-d Himself buried Moses on this day -- granting them a respite from their labors.
· Sanctification of the Moon
Once a month, as the moon waxes in the sky, we recite a special blessing called Kiddush Levanah, "the sanctification of the moon," praising the Creator for His wondrous work we call astronomy.
Kiddush Levanah is recited after nightfall, usually on Saturday night. The blessing is concluded with songs and dancing, because our nation is likened to the moonâ?"as it waxes and wanes, so have we throughout history. When we bless the moon, we renew our trust that very soon, the light of Gâ?'d's presence will fill all the earth and our people will be redeemed from exile.
Though Kiddush Levanah can be recited as early as three days after the moon's rebirth, the kabbalah tells us it is best to wait a full week, till the seventh of the month. Once 15 days have passed, the moon begins to wane once more and the season for saying the blessing has passed.

· The Spanish Inquisition (1481)
The Inquisition was created in the twelfth century to find "Christian heretics" who would be punished or killed. Eventually, Jews too were open to such charges of heresy, simply for being Jewish; and torture was routinely used to extract "confessions." Over the years, the inquisition, which operated with Papal consent, spread to many countries.
In 1481 the Inquisition began to function in Spain to expose the secret Jews, known as the Anusim or Marranos. This Inquisition was anti-Jewish more than in any previous countries. The first public sentencing and burning alive of six marrano men and one woman by the Spanish Inquisition was held on this date in Seville in Southern Spain.

Поздно вечером вы уже готовитесь ко сну, а Дэвид Орьяс все еще на побережье. Да-да, настраивает свою камеру. Чтобы в один прекрасный день вы увидели его потрясающие, волшебные, невероятные фотографии из серии "Волны" (Waves).
Запах французских булочек с корицей и тонкий аромат французского же парфюма, изысканность Монмартра и умиротворенность Елисейских полей, сладость и страсть французских поцелуев, терпкость и порочность тонких французских сигареток, - все это можно увидеть и даже почувствовать в иллюстрациях, автором которых является художник по имени Людовик Жакз (Ludovic Jacqz). В Париже любят стильную одежду и женскую красоту, а Людовик Жакз хоть и работает в Бордо, но живет по парижским законам и правилам изящного искусства.
Все знают, что для оригами нужен ровный квадратный лист белой или цветной бумаги. Все, кроме Крейга Сонненфилда (Craig Sonnenfeld). Ему, видимо, забыли сообщить о том, что нужна просто бумага, и он создает удивительные оригами из … долларовых банкнот.
В начале марта в небе американской столицы, города Вашингтона, появляются необычные гости. Нет, это не марсиане, которые все-таки осуществили свою вековую мечту и готовятся поработить США. Это воздушные змеи - десятки, сотни разноцветных "птиц", начинающих свой змеиный полет на ежегодном Смитсоновском фестивале воздушных змеев.
Кому и для чего нужны небоскребы, в которых невозможно жить, и скульптуры, которые нельзя потрогать? Задайте этот вопрос японскому художнику и дизайнеру по имени Катсуми Хаякава (Katsumi Hayakawa), - и он покажет вам выставку своих работ из бумаги, которые не то скульптуры, не то макеты будущих футуристических зданий... Сам же автор предпочитает называть их трехмерными бумажными инсталляциями, а увидеть их можно было в конце прошлого года в токийской галерее МоМо.
Пуантилизм (или точечная техника) зародился еще в конце XIX века, когда художники решили не смешивать цвета на палитре, а делать точечные мазки чистыми, яркими красками. На расстоянии они сливались, давая живописное изображение. Нечто подобное предпринял Питер Мейсон, только в роли его «пикселей» выступают тысячи бэушных почтовых марок.
