The Shabbat before the Ninth of Av is called Shabbat Chazon ("Shabbat of Vision") after the opening words of the day's reading from the prophets ("haftara"), which is the third of the series of readings known as "The Three of Rebuke [

On this Shabbat, say the Chassidic masters, we are granted a vision of the Third Temple; we may not see it with our physical eyes, but our souls see it, and are empowered to break free of our present state of galut (exile and spiritual displacement) and bring about the Redemption and the rebuilding of the Temple.

· Fast Begins this Evening
Because of the holiness of Shabbat, the Fast of the Ninth of Av mourning destruction of the Temple and the exile of Israel (see "Today in Jewish History [
http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=D679F6DAEF83421F752FC4265CFD010C&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ]") is postponed to after Shabbat. The fast begins this evening at sunset, and continues through tomorrow, Av 10, till hightfall.
Some of the fast's mourning practices--such as refraining from Torah study other than texts related to the events and nature of the fast day--are obsrved beginning from midday today.
Finish eating by sunset. After nightfall say, "Blessed is He who distinguishes between the holy and the mundane." No Havdalah tonight, but light a candle and recite the fire blessing. Havdalah is recited after the fast (omitting the candle and incense blessings).

· Exodus Generation Condemned to Die in Desert (1312 BCE)
On the Ninth of Av of the year 2449 from creation (1312 BCE), the generation of Jews who came out of Egypt under Moses' leadership 16 months earlier were condemned to die in the desert and the entry into the Land of Israel was delayed for 40 years.
As related in Numbers 14, when the Spies that Moses sent to the Land of Canaan returned with their disheartening report (see "Today in Jewish History [
http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=ECC58DB3BD167DC60099BB3984C58171&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ]" for yesterday, Av 8), the people wept all night -- the night of Av 9th -- proclaiming that they'd rather return to Egypt than attempt to conquer and settle it; G-d decreed that the entire generation will wander in the desert for 40 years until that last of them died out, and that their children, under the leadership of Joshua, will enter the land He promised as Israel's heritage.
This is the first of five national tragedies that occurred on Av 9 listed by the Talmud (Taanit 4:6), due to which the day was designated as a fast day. The other four are: the destruction of the two Temples, the fall of Betar, and the plowing over of Jerusalem. (see below)

· Holy Temples Destroyed; Birth of Moshiach (423 BCE and 69 CE)
Both the first and second Holy Temples which stood in Jerusalem were destroyed on Av 9: the First Temple by the Babylonians in the year 3338 from creation (423 BCE), and the second by the Romans in 3829 (69 CE).
The Temples' destruction represents the greatest tragedy in Jewish history, for it marks our descent into Galut--the state of physical exile and spiritual displacement in which we still find ourselves today. Thus the Destruction is mourned as a tragedy that affects our lives today, 2,000 years later, no less than the very generation that experienced it first hand.
Yet the Ninth of Av is also a day of hope. The Talmud relates that Moshiach ("anointed one"--the Messiah), was born at the very moment that the Temple was set aflame and the Galut began. [This is in keeping with the teachings of our sages that, "In every generation is born a descendent of Judah who is worthy to become Israel's Moshiach" (Bartinoro on Ruth); "When the time will come, G-d will reveal Himself to him and send him, and then the spirit of Moshiach, which is hidden and secreted on high, will be manifested in him" (Chattam Sofer).]

· Fall of Betar (133 CE)
Betar, the last stronghold in the heroic Bar Kochba rebellion, fell to the Romans on the 9th of Av of the year 3893 (133 CE) after a three-year siege. 580,000 Jews died by starvation or the sword, including Bar Kochba, the leader of the rebellion.

· Expulsion from England (1290)
The Jews of England were expelled by King Edward I on this date in 1290.

Весьма необычный способ разрисовывать стены домов и заборы, телефонные будки и остановочные комплексы придумала французская художница Мадемуазель Морис (Mademoiselle Maurice). Ее стрит-арт это не граффити, сделанные красками из баллончиков, и не масштабная аппликация из домашних заготовок. Мадемуазель Морис создает необычные инсталляции из разноцветных оригами.
Каждый, кто взглянет на эту фотографию, увидит уютную и празднично убранную гостиную, жители которой тщательно готовятся к встрече Рождества. По всей видимости, снимок сделан в Великобритании, в изысканном доме благородных леди и джентльмена, у которых двое или трое маленьких детишек, чьи игрушки живописно разложены на полу, а стены не менее живописно украшают классические картины с изображением предков таких же благородных кровей. И все бы ничего, если бы не огромная монета посреди гостиной. Хотя... это не монета огромная, просто гостиная целиком поместилась внутри старинного музыкального шкафа.
Глядя на город Ла-Пас с высоты птичьего полета («неофициальная» столица Боливии, конституционная – город Сукре), приходишь к мысли, что выстроен он был будто по завету Ж.-Ж. Руссо, считавшего, что нужно наблюдать природу и следовать дорогой, которую она указывает. Этот город, «разросшийся» в кратере потухшего несколько миллионов лет назад вулкана, славится тем, что является одной из самых необычных столиц мира – располагается на высоте 3600 м над уровнем моря.
«Марк Цукерберг» и «Игра Престолов» - это одни из самых популярных трендов последних двух лет. А малайская художница Хун И (Hong Yi) решила объединить это громкое имя и громкое название в единое целое — она создала весьма необычный портрет основателя социальной сети Facebook, сооруженный из книг Джорджа Мартина.
В честь дня города Москвы с 14 июля по 2 сентября 2012 года проводится московский фестиваль уличной культуры – 8 уикендов, 8 подвидов искусства улиц. Третий event - "Танцевальная суббота", посвященный street dance'y, а именно направлению уличных танцев, пройдет в Москве 28 июля.
Вселенная щедра на сюрпризы, особенно те, которые мы называем чудесами природы. Таким чудом можно назвать и White Sands, единственную в мире пустыню с "вечным снегом": белым песком, похожим на измельченный фарфор, мел или гипс. Находится она в Нью-Мексико (США), на высоте 1291 м над уровнем моря, в долине Тулароза, окруженной горами Сан-Андрес и Сакраменто. Пустыня White Sands National Monument является национальным памятником США и занимает огромную территорию свыше 710 кв. км.
О прекрасных принцах, графах, маркизах, а также о других благородных представителях сильного пола девочки начинают мечтать, как только им прочтут первую волшебную сказку о принцессах, шикарных дворцах и королевских балах. С этого момента каждая малышка уверена, что если у нее будет такое же изумительное платье, как у Золушки, Белоснежки или Жасмин, ее тут же отыщет принц, предназначенный именно ей, встанет на одно колено и предложит руку и сердце. А быть может, подхватит ее на руки, запрыгнет в карету, на верного коня или ковер-самолет, и они умчатся вдаль, в тридевятое царство, где обязательно есть замок, сад и круглый пруд с кувшинками. С возрастом сказки сменяются реальностью, но для тех девушек, которые до сих пор мечтают о такой свадьбе, как в любимой с детства сказочной истории, дизайнер Альфред Анджело (Alfred Angelo) создал удивительные свадебные наряды в стиле диснеевских принцесс. Все они входят в коллекцию Disney Princess wedding dresses.
Среди множества снимков, сделанных за историю фотожурналистики, есть особенно важные, которые получили всемирную известность, стали символами какого-либо события. Большинству людей знаком портрет зеленоглазой афганской девочки, или снимок, на котором вьетнамские дети убегают из сожженной напалмом деревни. Но кто делал эти фотографии? Первооткрывательницей чилийского национального парка Торрес-дель-Пайне по праву считается известная шотландская писательница, леди Флоренс Дикси, которая стала одной из первых путешественниц, посетивших этот удивительный природный заповедник. Заснеженные вершины гор, реки и водопады, ледники и озера – такое природное разнообразие не оставило ее равнодушной, под впечатлением от поездки она в 1880 г. написала книгу «Через Патагонию». С тех пор многое изменилось: Торрес-дель-Пайне приобрел статус биосферного заповедника ЮНЕСКО, сюда съезжаются туристы со всего мира, но чарующая красота горных пейзажей все также остается неразгаданной загадкой.
