(Alban Grosdidier)
(Ali Cherri)
(Ali Cherri).
Jarbas Lopes
(Nick Stern)
Переслать - Современное искусство: Необычная поленница, или инсталляция "Now I Know". (Varnai Gyula)
Marilyn's Last Sitting"
(Keisuke Tanaka)

DAILY DOSE: Natural Response
B"H
Natural Response
================
There is an easy path to fulfill the Torah as it is meant to be fulfilled. Not by forcing yourself, nor by convincing yourself, but by achieving awareness:
A constant awareness that all you see and hear, the wind against your face, the pulse of your own heart, the stars in the heavens and the earth beneath your feet, all things of this cosmos and beyond . . .
. . . all are but the outer garments of an inner consciousness, a projection of His will and thoughts. Nothing more than His words to us, within which He is concealed.
And the Master of that consciousness speaks to you and asks you to join Him in the mystic union of deed and study.
In such a state of mind, could you possibly choose otherwise?

Rosh Chodesh Av
======================
Today's Laws & Customs
======================
· Rosh Chodesh Observances
Today is Rosh Chodesh--"Head of the Month"--for the Hebrew month of "Av" (also called "Menachem Av").
Special portions are added to the daily prayers: Hallel (Psalms 113-118) is recited -- in its "partial" form -- following the Shacharit morning prayer, and the Yaaleh V'yavo prayer is added to the Amidah and to Grace After Meals; the additional Musaf prayer is said (when Rosh Chodesh is Shabbat, special additions are made to the Shabbat Musaf). Tachnun (confession of sins) and similar prayers are omitted.
Many have the custom to mark Rosh Chodesh with a festive meal and reduced work activity. The latter custom is prevalent amongst women, who have a special affinity with Rosh Chodesh -- the month being the feminine aspect of the Jewish Calendar [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=FB93C5705A5E15CF2FBE25F7473B156C&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ].

· "Nine Days" Begin
"When Av begins, we diminish [our] rejoicing" (Talmud, Taanit 26b).
On the 1st of Av, "The Three Weeks [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=5F319A21E5974923D56A32780ED2BE19&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ]" mourning period over the destruction of the Holy Temple--which began 13 days earlier on Tammuz 17--enters an intensified stage. During "The Nine Days" from Av 1st to the Ninth of Av, a heightened degree of mourning is observed, including abstention from meat and wine, music, bathing for pleasure, and other joyous and enjoyable activities. (The particular mourning customs vary from community to community, so consult a competent Halachic authority for details).
Consumption of meat and wine is permitted on Shabbat, or at a Seudat Mitzvah (obligatory festive meal celebrating the fulfillment of a mitzvah) such as a Bris (circumcision), or a "Siyum" celebrating the completion of a course of Torah study (i.e., a complete Talmudic tractate). The Lubavitcher Rebbe initiated the custom of conducting or participating in a Siyum on each of the Nine Days (even if one does not avail oneself of the dispensation to eat meat).
Citing the verse (Isaiah 1:27) "Zion shall be redeemed with mishpat [Torah] and its returnees with Tzedakah," the Rebbe urged that we increase in Torah study [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=38BC7F9FB3633BB66036D4B7D7B982B0&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ] (particularly the study of the laws of the Holy Temple [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=361B3B1380A8D9C77764746DEECD278E&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ]) and charity [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=BDE8AE29D13EB017640DC3247227E2E8&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ] during this period.

· Passing of Aaron (1273 BCE)
Aaron the first High Priest, brother of Moses and Miriam, passed away at age 123 on the 1st of Av of the year 2487 from creation (1274 BCE). This is the only yahrzeit (date of passing) explicitly mentioned in the Torah (Numbers 33:38).

· Ezra and Followers Arrive in Israel (348 BCE)
Following their long journey from Babylon (see Jewish history for the 12th of Nissan [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=B587C2AAF5EE95893B996000C8B51235&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ]), Ezra and his entourage arrived in the land of Israel to be near the newly built second Holy Temple in Jerusalem. A relatively small group came together with Ezra, the majority of Jews, including great Torah scholars, choosing to remain in Babylon due to the harsh conditions that were then prevailing in Israel.

Daily Quote
===========
A chassid creates an environment. If he does not, he had better check his own baggage carefully, to see whether his own affairs are in order. The very fact that he fails to create an environment should make him as broken as a splinter. He must demand of himself: What am I doing in this world?

Rosh Chodesh Av
======================
Today's Laws & Customs
======================

Daily Quote
===========
A chassid creates an environment. If he does not, he had better check his own baggage carefully, to see whether his own affairs are in order. The very fact that he fails to create an environment should make him as broken as a splinter. He must demand of himself: What am I doing in this world?

It is our sincere hope and prayer that the dissemination of the G-dly wisdom found in His Torah will hasten the time of ultimate good, with the coming of our righteous Moshiach , when "the earth would be filled with knowledge of G-d, as the waters cover the sea." Why is There a Curtain Covering the Ark in my Synagogue?
The parochet on the aron kodesh
By Dovid Zaklikowski
=========================================================
Ever wondered why the ark in your synagogue [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=460185266167A38AD64B31AB3D3D78A1&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ] has two coverings – a door and a curtain?
The first mention of the concept of the curtain is found in the Talmud.[1] Today this curtain is called the parochet (Heb.
The ark [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=0D17C63070A03F9B2EF8D567483DCD60&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ], known as the aron kodesh [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=0D17C63070A03F9B2EF8D567483DCD60&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ] (Heb. ארון קודש), is considered one of the holiest components of the synagogue; the actual Torah scrolls [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=9278B57D73475BA78598C210757685BA&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ] which are kept inside the ark are the holiest.[2]
In the Holy Temple [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=76A4D6AA9254722660028AFB69D5BFF9&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ] in Jerusalem there was a curtain separating the "Holy [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=2D4ECB7259C3D859FFDE65434CD35D55&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ]" chamber and the "Holy of Holies [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=A0FD4AF2401C46CB0C5177162096EBEF&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ]" chamber. "And you shall place the table[3] on the outer side of the dividing curtain…"[4]
The curtain in the Temple was not used to separate the rooms; there was a stone wall for that.[5] The curtain, explains Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=48C9779AD629EF08139267B1EB1CB42D&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ], known as Rashi, was a sign of modesty and respect for the Holy Ark which was kept in the Holy of Holies.[6]
The same is true for the ark in the synagogue. The Torahs are wrapped in individual coverings, the ark has a door, and we add an extra curtain as a sign of modesty and respect for the holy scrolls.[7]
Clearly, the custom of covering the ark with a curtain is important and meaningful. Synagogues worldwide have followed this custom for thousands of years. A curtain should always remain outside the ark as a sign of respect for the Torah scrolls inside.[8]
See the Synagogue Companion [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=460185266167A38AD64B31AB3D3D78A1&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ].

Why is There a Curtain Covering the Ark in my Synagogue?
The parochet on the aron kodesh
By Dovid Zaklikowski
=========================================================

"Tashmish Detashmish") are not arguing about the existence of the curtain. They are debating if the curtain inside the Ark is sacred.

Poor Reception
==============
None of us could truly believe for a moment that evil could descend from Above.
Rather, the transmission from Above is pure and coherent. Evil is distortion and noise, an artifact of our reception.
If we would only adjust our reception devices, our attitude and our ability to receive, the signal would become clear. And that is all of life—adjusting reception.

=======================
· Passing of Rashi (1105)
Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki, known as "Rashi", passed away on the 29th of Tammuz of the year 4865 from creation (1105 CE).
Rashi was born in Troyes, France, in 1040. His commentaries on the Torah, Prophets and Talmud are universally accepted as the most basic tool for the understanding of these texts for schoolchild and scholar alike. Numerous commentaries have been authored on his commentary. In his famed "Rashi talks", the Lubavitcher Rebbe repeatedly demonstrated how Rashi's "simple meaning of the text" style enfolds many layers of meaning, often resolving profound difficulties in the text and presenting new, innovative interpretations with a simple word choice or rephrasing of a Midrashic passage.
