Passing of the great Chassidic leader and advocate for the Jewish people, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev (1740-1810). Rabbi Levi Yitzchak was a close disciple of the second leader of the Chassidic movement, Rabbi DovBer, the Maggid of Mezritch. He is best known for his love for every Jew and his impassioned words of advocation on their behalf before the Almighty.

"Моей младшей дочери 6 лет.
Пора спать. Время 23.00, вдруг она начинает резко плакать и жалуется на боль в ухе. У меня с собой нет капель для уха. Кого звать на помощь ночью?
Хочу поставить компресс, но она его не терпит и снимает повязку.
Я в течение часа не могу ничем помочь дочери. Она стонет и плачет, что никак не может заснуть от боли.
И тут я вспоминаю об упражнении прикосновения, который только один раз тренировала. Говорю дочери: Я сейчас буду делать тебе одно упражнение, а ты мне говори, как будешь себя чувствовать.
Начинаю делать упражнение ("Почувствуй мой палец"), она сначала сильно зажата, но затем становится чуть спокойнее, говорит, что ей становится легче.
Пробует заснуть, но снова вскрикивает. Просит сделать это упражнение еще. Уже за полночь и я, преодолевая сон, продолжаю упражнение в течение 5 минут. Она засыпает.
Я тоже засыпаю, тревожно ожидая повторного рецидива.
Утром просыпаюсь и понимаю, что за ночь ничего не произошло. В 8.30 она просыпается со словами - МАМА! У меня ничего не болит! Ты рада?
Догадайтесь, какая тут может быть реакция матери!...
Для кого-то это чудеса? Для меня это теперь реально работающая технология.

Editor's Note:

We all have moments when, although things are not going all that well, we put up a façade and paste a smile on our faces. We sometimes go to great lengths to mask our inner feelings. We'll go about our day as if nothing is wrong, laugh along with our coworkers, and go home to our spouses and children smiling at them without a hint of our inner cares.

Every once in a while, we even exhibit behavior that is the complete opposite of what we feel. We dance when we'd rather mope, sing when we feel like crying, and smile when a frown would be a better indicator of what's going on inside.

But "faking it" long enough will eventually affect your actual mood. You may forget why you were upset in the first place, or perhaps realize that it wasn't such a big deal after all.

As we conclude the holiday of Sukkot, the festival of joy, and look toward Simchat Torah, the festival of extreme joy, we are reminded that regardless of what else is going on in our lives (spiritually and materially), spending time in the company of fellow Jews celebrating the Torah will certainly have a positive impact us now, and for the rest of our year.

This is the time of year when we revel in our connection with G‑d. "Я занимался по книге Дианетика.
После завершения у меня улучшилось зрение, пропал насморк, я научился справляться с зубной болью и общее физическое состояние стало просто изумительным.
Я уже давно не чувствовал себя так хорошо.
Но самое главное, что произошло в эти дни, это как бы раздвинулся горизонт моей Вселенной.
Каким-то невероятным способом ко мне стало поступать гораздо больше информации из окружающего меня мира.
До этого, в последнее время, я ходил по улице, не замечая перемен.
Мне казалось-что, собственно , нового может быть вокруг, то же самое, что вчера или год назад.
Оказывается, мир вокруг меняется каждую секунду и миг, который был минуту назад, уже никогда не повторится. Появилась жажда впитывания информации.
А ещё более интересные перемены произошли с внутренним отношением к своим близким. Я ехал в автобусе домой и меня переполняло чувство ОГРОМНОЙ,
переливающийся через края через края любви.
Я не мог себя удержать и звонил или посылал SMS своим родным и близким.
Звоню своей дочери и говорю: "Иришка, я тебя очень люблю!". Я сразу чувствую, как потеплел её голос и она ласково сказала, что я тебя, папочка, тоже очень люблю.
И каждый момент общения наполнял меня ещё большей радостью и вдохновением. Просто непередаваемое счастье.

Я чрезвычайно благодарен церкви Саентологии и всем её сотрудникам за то счастье, которое они мне подарили.
Мне теперь невозможно будет держать это счастье в себе, мне обязательно нужно будет дарить его другим людям.
Я не представляю свою дальнейшую жизнь иначе.

It is the practice of many communities -- and such is the Chabad custom -- to conduct "hakafot" and dance with the Torah scrolls also on the eve of Shemini Atzeret. (See entry for tomorrow, "Simchat Torah".)

Â· Rain Prayer

In today's musaf prayer we begin to insert the phrase mashiv haruach umorid hageshem ("who makes the wind blow and brings down the rain") in our daily prayers (as we'll continue to do through the winter, until the 1st day of Passover). Special hymns on rain and water are added to musaf in honor of the occasion.

Â· Eat in Sukkah

The festival of Sukkot, commemorating G-d's enveloping protection of the Children of Israel during their 40-year journey through the desert (1313-1273 BCE), is celebrated for seven days, beginning from the eve of Tishrei 15. During this time, we are commanded to "dwell" in a sukkah -- a hut of temporary construction, with a roof covering of raw, unfinished vegetable matter (branches, reeds, bamboo, etc.) -- signifying the temporality and fragily of human habitation and man-made shelter and our utter dependence upon G-d's protection and providence.

Outside of Israel, we eat in the sukkah an additional day, on the holiday of Shemini Atzeret (see Why are holidays celebrated an extra day in the Diaspora? Â· Lubavitcher Rebbe Suffers Massive Heart Attack (1977)

While celebrating the joyous holiday hakafot with thousands of chassidim in the central Chabad-Lubavitch synagogue in Brooklyn, NY, the Rebbe suffered a massive heart attack. In spite of the tremendous pain, the Rebbe remained calm and insisted on continuing the hakafot, and only after they concluded did he depart the synagogue.

On the following day, the Rebbe requested that the chassidim celebrate the Simchat Torah festivities with the same joy and fervor as all other years, and so it was.

After the holiday ended, the Rebbe addressed and reassured the anxious chassidim from his office (which was hastily converted into a cutting-edge cardiac unit) via a public address system.

The Rebbe remained in his office in Lubavitch World Headquarters under medical supervision for several weeks. He returned home [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=1D76CE41F1A9D6A2B0BCEEA6D3839AD4&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ] five weeks later on the 1st of Kislev, a day designated by chassidim for celebration and thanksgiving.

Â· Completing, beginning, and rejoicing with the Torah ("Hakafot")

Today is Simchat Torah ("Rejoicing of the Torah"), on which we conclude, and begin anew, the annual Torah reading cycle. The event is marked with great rejoicing, and the "hakafot" procession, held both on the eve and morning of Simchat Torah, in which we march and dance with Torah scrolls around the reading table in the synagogue. In the words of the Chassidic saying, "On Simchat Torah, we rejoice in the Torah, and the Torah rejoices in us; the Torah, too, wants to dance, so we become the Torah's dancing feet."

During today's Torah reading, everyone, including children under the age of Bar Mitzvah, is called up to the Torah; thus the reading is read numerous times, and each aliyah is given collectively to many individuals, so that everyone should recite the blessing over the Torah on this day.

Dancing with Feet
=================

On Simchat Torah, we dance with our feet, not with our heads.

If we would dance with our heads, each one would dance a different dance, in a different space, with his friends and not others, or as a lonesome soul. For one head is higher, one is lower, one is here on earth and the other in the clouds or beyond.

But we dance with our feet, and all our feet are here on the same earth—none higher and none lower—so now we can all dance as one, with one heart, as one people.

Â· Shabbat Bereishit

The Shabbat after Simchat Torah is Shabbat Bereishit -- "Shabbat of Beginning" -- the first Shabbat of the annual Torah reading cycle, on which the Torah section of Bereishit ("In the Beginning") is read.

The weekly Torah reading is what defines the Jewish week, serving as the guide and point of reference for the week's events, deeds and decisions; Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi called this "living with the times." Hence the theme and tone of this week is one of beginning and renewal, as we launch into yet another cycle of Torah life. The Rebbes of Chabad would say: "As one establishes oneself on Shabbat Bereishit, so goes the rest of the year."

Â· Blessing the New Month

This Shabbat is Shabbat Mevarchim ("the Shabbat that blesses" the new month): a special prayer is recited blessing the Rosh Chodesh ("Head of the Month") of upcoming month of Cheshvan, which falls on Friday and Shabbat of next week.

It is a Chabad custom to recite the entire book of Psalms before morning prayers, and to conduct farbrengens (chassidic gatherings) in the course of the Shabbat.
