· Partial Hallel
Unlike all the other festivals, only the abridged version of Hallel (Psalms 113-118, recited on special occasions in praise and thanksgiving to G-d) is said on the latter days of Passover. The reason for this is based on the Midrash which relates that when the Egyptians were drowning in the sea, the angels in heaven desired to sing; but G-d said to them: "The work of My hands [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=E39985E1A4690B75E30DF6F1BCE85AB0&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ] is drowning in the sea, and you wish to sing?"
· Count "Seven Days to the Omer" Tonight
Tomorrow is the seventh day of the Omer Count. Since, on the Jewish calendar, the day begins at nightfall of the previous evening, we count the omer for tomorrow's date tonight, after nightfall: "Today is seven days, which are one week, to the Omer." (If you miss the count tonight, you can count the omer all day tomorrow, but without the preceding blessing).
The 49-day "Counting of the Omer" retraces our ancestors' seven-week spiritual journey from the Exodus to Sinai. Each evening we recite a special blessing and count the days and weeks that have passed since the Omer; the 50th day is Shavuot [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=822BB2CC498E4FC2C469E1A045997076&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ], the festival celebrating the Giving of the Torah at Sinai.
Tonight's Sefirah: Malchut sheb'Chessed -- "Receptiveness in Kindness"
The teachings of Kabbalah explain that there are seven "Divine Attributes" -- Sefirot -- that G-d assumes through which to relate to our existence: Chessed, Gevurah, Tifferet, Netzach, Hod, Yesod and Malchut ("Love", "Strength", "Beauty", "Victory", "Splendor", "Foundation" and "Sovereignty"). In the human being, created in the "image of G-d," the seven sefirot are mirrored in the seven "emotional attributes" of the human soul: Kindness, Restraint, Harmony, Ambition, Humility, Connection and Receptiveness. Each of the seven attributes contain elements of all seven--i.e., "Kindness in Kindness", "Restraint in Kindness", "Harmony in Kindness", etc.--making for a total of forty-nine traits. The 49-day Omer Count is thus a 49-step process of self-refinement, with each day devoted to the "rectification" and perfection of one the forty-nine "sefirot."

After seven days of contention with G-d at the burning bush (see entry [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=8A08FE85A3E38DBA6491B3607275F404&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ] for "Nissan 15"), Moses assumed the mission of taking the Children of Israel out of Egypt. Taking leave of his father-in-law, Jethro, he placed his wife and children on a donkey [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=7B777B9A1FE4C530F78B3F77AD32D20D&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ] and set out for Egypt to demand of Pharaoh, "Let My people go!"
· Red Sea Splits (1313 BCE)
On the eve of the seventh day after the Exodus [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=7263AAA92F05BC38C2A6D82A932F1568&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ], the Children of Israel found themselves trapped [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=D7C5766122A301FA6155094C76DA29E7&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ] between the Egyptian army and cavalry pursuing them from behind and the waters of the Red Sea before them. G-d commanded Moses: "Speak to the Children of Israel, that they should move forward!"
Nachshon ben Aminadav of the tribe of Judah was the first to jump into the sea; the water split, and "the children of Israel walked across on the dry land in the midst of the sea [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=2A3C66D4E11212FB3F8AF3537150E61C&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ]." All that night, a pillar of fire intervened between the Egyptians and the Israelites. Пасхальная неделя продолжается, христианские народы продолжают вспоминать и переживать последние дни земной жизни Иисуса Христа. Многие из них даже чересчур истово относятся к празднику - отчего и появляются такие пугающие или опасные пасхальные традиции, как 
Команда «Everynone» из Нью-Йорка создает запоминающиеся видеоролики. В сотрудничестве с «Radiolab» креативщики наваяли маленький шедевр под названием «Симметрия». Человеку свойственно проводить параллели и окружать себя противопоставлениями. Любите все со всем сравнивать? О'кей, делим экран на две части – и поехали противопоставлять (начало-конец, горькое-сладкое, полицейский-преступник) и дополнять одно другим (кисть-краски, ключ-замок, молоко-печеньки).
Космос завораживает и манит, звезды гипнотизируют, кометы и астероиды пугают, а далекие планеты таят в себе массу загадок, вопросов и головоломок. Одни решают их, глядя в телескопы сквозь ночное небо, а другие... Другие оглянутся по сторонам, и откроют новые планеты совсем рядышком, быть может, даже на собственной кухне. Этим открытиям посвящен арт-проект фотохудожника Кристофера Йонассена (Christopher Jonassen) под названием "Devour".
Конечно, дочка арабского шейха отличается от юной африканской беженки, а та, в свою очередь, отличается от представительницы американского среднего класса школьного возраста. Но между ними все-таки есть и много общего. Вот эти схожести и различия между молодыми девушками по всему миру и рассматривает в своем фотопроекте «A Girl And Her Room» американская фотограф ливанского происхождения Рания Матар (Rania Matar).
Оказывается, проблема плохих дорог есть не только в нашей стране, но в куда более богатых и развитых государствах. Например, во Франции, где даже в Париже состояние многих дорог оставляет желать лучшего. Но Париж не был бы Парижем, если бы там к этому недоразумению не отнеслись творчески. К примеру, как художница Хулиана Сантакрус Эррера (Juliana Santacruz Herrera), использовавшая для латания дырок на дорогах свой вязальный талант.
Из каких частей состоит сказка? Оказывается, ответ на этот вопрос можно сформулировать строго математически - для этого лишь нужно составить сказочное уравнение с картинками вместо переменных. Такой остроумный ход использовала в своей рекламе компания Brain Candy Toys, специализирующаяся на развивающих игрушках.
"Остановись, мгновение!", так говорят о фотографиях. Застывшие кусочки времени, сохраненные воспоминания, - они не умеют говорить и двигаться, но все равно для нас они живые, яркие, теплые... Но только вот фотографии нью-йоркского автора Джейми Бэка (Jamie Beck) - совсем не такие. Они не умеют говорить, зато способны двигаться: вертеть головой, улыбаться, подмигивать. Ветер треплет одежду и волосы людей, запечатленных на снимках, и кажется, будто человек вот-вот сойдет с экрана и сядет рядышком на диван, попросив чашку чаю.
Эпизоды, в которых герои удаляются навстречу заходящему солнцу, давно стали кинематографическим штампом. Вопиющая красивость подобных кадров сыграла с ними злую шутку, ибо нельзя бездумно тиражировать чужие, пусть даже удачные, находки. Начинающий фотограф Ти Джей Скотт (и, кстати, опытный режиссер и сценарист), помня об этом, старается обойти болото штампов, в котором так часто вязнут молодые да перспективные. Удалось ли автору вдохнуть жизнь в извечные силуэты на закате, судите сами.
Ни для кого не секрет, что человеческая деятельность очень сильно влияет на природу, на экологическое состояние планеты Земля, причем, изменяет его совсем не в лучшую сторону. А, благодаря работам с названием «Oritsunagumono» от японского мастера Такаюки Хори (Takayuki Hori), иллюстрации к этим процессам можно увидеть и в стиле оригами.
"Маленький, да удаленький", "мал золотник, да дорог", и масса других пословиц и поговорок ходит в народе о маленьких предметах и миниатюрных людях. И миниатюрное искусство израильского ювелира по имени Т. Шамир (T. Shamir) также заслуживает внимания, ведь он создает из серебра и золота не просто украшения или статуэтки, а уменьшенные донельзя копии полностью функционального оружия. На сегодняшний день на его счету - крошечная золотая пушка и махонький серебряный арбалет.
Греческий огонь - одна из нераскрытых загадок Византии, средневековое секретное оружие: выплескиваясь из пушек древних кораблей, особая горючая смесь поджигала корабли врагов. Именно из-за этого страшного оружия греков тысячу лет назад князь Игорь не сумел взять Царьград. Ныне секрет смеси безвозвратно утерян - и тем не менее, отблески современного "греческого огня" скоро осветят стены и дома острова Хиос в Эгейском море. Приближается Пасха, а Пасха на Хиосе - время ракет.
Комната-поле, комната-море, комната-небо... Люди, настольно зависимые от СМИ, что вместо голов у них - телеприемники. Окна, двери и лампочки высоко-высоко в горах или в чистом поле.
