Editor's Note:

One of my favorite bumper stickers reads: "Don't tell G‑d how big your problems are, tell your problems how big G‑d is." I love it because it is so true. We can get so caught up in our overwhelming situations and the fears that accompany them, that we can lose sight of the true reality—that we are never alone.

This week's Torah portion, Eikev, teaches us this very lesson. We are reassured that even when we feel that the nations are too great and we will not be able to defeat them, we need not fear, for we must remind ourselves that our Creator is aware of our predicament and will help us through (7:17–18). The commentary Maasei Hashem explains that if we trust that G‑d will help us, we will be fine. But if we feel that our success is dependent on ourselves alone, then we truly should fear!

Being able to ask for help, and recognizing that we are not able to handle everything by ourselves, is proof not of weakness but rather of strength. When we are able to heed the advice and guidance of our family, friends, and colleagues, and of course from Above, then we allow others to help us through the difficulties in our lives. And when an entire team is staring down the problem facing us, it suddenly doesn't look so huge anymore.

Have a great week!
