Editor's Note:
Dear Friends,
As I write these words rockets are falling over Israel.
I was just chatted online with my cousin in Ashdod. Every second line of our conversation was peppered with another siren, signalling another rocket attack. (She was typing in a secure room.) During our chat several rockets fell. She could hear the sound of ambulances rushing to help the injured, yet she sounded incredibly unruffled.
I often wonder how Israelis could go about living their normal lives when terror abounds. When I lived in Israel in 1995, I was able to understand this mindset a bit as bombs were exploding on city busses every few weeks. It was a horrific time. Yet most people did not stop using the transit system. Boarding a bus the day after an explosion, I remember thinking that there could be a bomb in my bus. But then I thought of G-d and how He watches over us all. I thought of how He is the Guardian of Israel who neither slumbers nor sleeps. And with His help, the Jewish nation will prevail.
We are all glued to the news, praying, hoping and wanting to help.
Every extra mitzvah adds a merit for the safety of our brethren in Israel. You can join thousands of others by registering your mitzvah [ http://link.Chabad.org/go.asp?li=FD1A2213AD0E95AA634012E502CCBB26&ui=F8C16ABBBCDB72AD0024EE2F647D78D2 ] here.
With prayerful wishes for a good week in the Holy Land and all over,
Chana Benjaminson

Encountering G-d (By Rabbi Jonathan Sacks)
There is an element of the religious life that is beyond conscious control.

Sheep (Based on the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe)
The Torah reading of Vayeitzei is veritably glutted with sheep: Jacob cares for sheep, receives his wages in sheep, breeds sheep, dreams of sheep, amasses a fortune in sheep . . . and marries a woman whose name in Hebrew means "sheep."

Vayeitzei in a Nutshell
Jacob rests on his way to Charan and dreams of a ladder with angels ascending and descending. Laban tricks Jacob into marrying his daughter Leah. A week later, Jacob also marries Rachel. He works for Laban for 14 years, then escapes with his wives and children.

Do a Mitzvah for Israel
